What a tithi is
A tithi is a lunar day: the time the Moon takes to gain twelve degrees on the Sun. A day's tithi is the one current at sunrise; it can begin and end at any hour, so the same tithi may span two calendar days, and now and then one is skipped.

The almanac is the same for everyone in a city. Your chart says which of these hours and days lean your way, from your own Moon and your own periods.
